Rangers Enforcing the Leash Law At Sheepfold: Go ELSEWHERE

posted Aug 6, 2011, 5:09 AM by michele biscoe   [ updated Aug 6, 2011, 8:24 AM ]
On January 4, 2011, the Acting Commissioner Jack Murray of the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) announced that, as a result of the Middlesex Fells Trail System Planning process, "we will be allowing off-leash recreation only in a designated area at the Sheepfold and better enforcing the leash laws elsewhere beginning this spring".

This summer, however, the DCR began increasing enforcement of the leash law at Sheepfold. Enforcement officers at Sheepfold should be respectfully told to "GO ELSEWHERE."

Please do not stop going to Sheepfold with your dog!  Be prepared, however, to tell official personnel who tell you your dog must be on leash to go somewhere else.  Bring a copy of the Acting Commissioner's letter dated January 4, 2011, to provide just in case.

Attached here is a version of the letter with the "elsewhere" language clearly indicated on the second page.  There is also information about how to connect with FellsDOG. Please share copies of the Commissioner's letter with other dog owners at the Fells:  People need to know that it is unfair that the DCR is enforcing the leash law at Sheepfold.
